Font Library Overview

Description

The Cafe SDK supports a Scalable Font Engine library. Font data can be supplied by NintendoWare for Cafe (NW4F), which includes both a Bitmap Font library and a Scalable Font library.

The Scalable Font Engine library is not included in the Cafe SDK package and must be installed separately to be used. For information on how to install and use the font engine, see documentation that can be found at your local Nintendo developer support group website.

Font Features

The following table shows the font features that are available for the Cafe SDK.

Font Feature Description
Scalable Font Engine Provides minimal features to decode TrueType Font (TTF) information into an image. The NW4F Scalable Font engine internally extends the minimal features to add ease of use.

The Scalable Font Engine is not included in the Cafe SDK package and must be installed separately to be used.
Font Data Bitmap and scalable fonts are supported. Bitmap font data can be created using the NW4F Font Converter tool. The bitmap font stores characters as an image. Although the bitmap font can be used to draw characters efficiently and quickly, it can use a large amount of memory resources and is not suitable for scaling.

The scalable font uses TTF font path information. It can generate and draw all characters, in all sizes, at the time of execution. You may also use the embedded TTF font that is already loaded by the system when using OSGetSharedData.
